Never give up - Amstel Gold Edition

If you get the chance, find and watch the last 10K of today’s Amstel Gold race. With 10K remaining, everyone thought that the race was over. One rider took it upon himself to work, dragging a group with him, catching the leaders with 300m to go and out-sprinting everyone. Mathieu van der Poehl didn’t just beat some chumps who were given a leash. He outworked a former world champion, a Milan-San Remo winner, and an olympic silver medalist, among others. It was absolutely an amazing finale to the race.

Amazing to watch the video. How Mathieu van der Poehl is able to sprint to the finish pulling others, then pass the leader is super human. I never understood why motor vehicles are allowed to mix with the riders to film instead of using drones.

Wow, I just watched it last night, It was awesome altho I knew how it would end. He had so much power at the end. He can start writing his own Paychecks.

Cyclingtips wrote an interesting article on Mathieu van der Poehl’s power figures.

Here is van der Poel’s strava file. The guy is an animal.
